    Description

Offered for sale is a TI 905 Silicon transistor from the 1950s.  This transistor is also marked with the RETMA registration number 2N1152 from 1959.  The 900 Series transistors are historic and collectable as they were the first transistors commercially sold using silicon instead of germanium.  Silicon ultimately took over from germanium as the primary semiconductor metal due to its suitablity for higher heat environments and ultimately  superior performance characteristics for frequency.  Ultimately silicon transistors led to the concurrent devlelopment of the integrated circuit by TI and Fairchild Semiconductor around 1960.
This transistor is NOS in its original white and red "matchbook" packaging, it is unpainted metal with both 905 and 2N1152 printed on the device along with the date code of 9-40 (1959, 40th week) and the TI logo; it has the much rarer gold plated leads vs. tinned leads.  It is in excellent condition.  I have not tested the unit and it is not guaranteed to be a working device, sold as a collectable only.
A beautiful collectable sample of an important milestone in semiconductor history.
