    Description

For sale is one (1) rare, vintage IBM model M, part number 1386303, from September 30, 1985 that appears to be new old stock (NOS) or at least in excellent condition . I bought this as part of a collection of 4 of this model that were found in a closed electronics store's inventory. It appears that this keyboard literally sat on a shelf for 35+ years. WHAT A FIND! It has been tested as functional. I'm typing this listing and I am typing this post using this keyboard and it feels smooth, crisp, and sounds more like a model F (singing springs) than later Model Ms. That is probably due to the heavier steel backplate that is used in the earliest Model Ms. The keycaps are one-piece and have beautiful, clear and bold legends. The keypad in particular looks great with the terminal legends. The coiled cable and casing are in great shape.  The 1386303 is a 102-key, US ANSI layout, buckling spring enhanced keyboard that was released with the IBM 3161 ASCII Display Station. It has no lock lights, a square silver logo at the top right, and has an attached & coiled cable ending in a 90 degree angled, 240 degree DIN connector. This is one of the earliest and best examples of an "Enhanced Keyboard" that you will find. I couldn't find any others for sale in the past on eBay and nothing available on Model M specialty sites.  TESTED & WORKING I used a Soarer's converter (not included) to test the keyboard on KeyboardTester.com and can confirm that every key registered that should register when using this converter. The "select" key at the upper right of the numpad does not respond on this or the other 1386303s that I have. Also, the minus (-) maps to (*) and the comma (,) maps to the minus (-) on the numpad. Again, that's on all 4 keyboards, so nothing defective. You can easily use SharpKeys or something similar to remap them.  SOLD AS-IS Although I can confirm keys have been tested and everything looks and feels great, this keyboard is almost 36 years old and comes with no warranty. It is being sold ** AS-IS ** , so please review the pictures and let me know if you have any questions before bidding/buying.  SHIPPING:  ** US ONLY **  I will ship via UPS Ground or USPS at my discretion. I pack well.  I have 100% positive feedback. Bid with confidence.
